Believer's baptism is a public witness and testimony to one's faith in Jesus Christ by immersion in water before a crowd of witnesses. According to the Apostle Paul, baptism symbolizes being buried with Christ in his death and raised to new life through his resurrection (Romans 6:4).
Why Is Baptism Important?
Jesus set the example for baptism through his humble obedience to God when he was baptized by John in the Jordan river (Luke 3:21-22). Following his resurrection he commanded his followers to make disciples, "baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit" (Matthew 28:19). Consequently baptism was taught (Romans 6:3-5) and practiced (Acts 8:38; Acts 10:47-48; Acts 16:14-15; Acts 16:33) by the early church.
Who Can Be Baptized?
Any person who has personally received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and has the witness of a new life in Christ, may request baptism. (Acts 8:36-38).
